CHICAGO -- (September 10, 2019) -- Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today the arrival of partner Jeffrey Bauer to the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation department in Chicago. Bauer joins from Dorsey & Whitney LLP, where he was a partner in its Employee Benefits group in Minneapolis.

Bauer’s practice is focused on qualified and nonqualified retirement plans (including ESOPs), ERISA fiduciary law and executive compensation. He represents a broad range of employers, including private and public companies, government entities, and nonprofit organizations, on the design, operation and termination of all types of benefit plans and compensation arrangements.

“Jeff brings a multifaceted employee benefits practice and his corresponding results are lauded by clients and colleagues alike,” said Diane Dygert, chair of Seyfarth’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation department. “We are ecstatic to bring Jeff on board as an important, strategic addition to our growing benefits practice.”

As a certified public accountant, Bauer holds a unique skill-set in the financial accounting facets of employee benefits and executive compensation law. He often works with employers and fiduciaries on their fiduciary obligations under ERISA and counsels company stakeholders on the applicable ESOP laws involved in the purchase and sale of employer securities. In addition, he is knowledgeable in the many compensation and benefits issues that frequently result from ERISA and tax litigation, as well as mergers and acquisitions.

“With significant and overlapping client relationships, Jeff is the ideal addition to our Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation team here in Chicago,” said Cory Hirsch, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Chicago office.

“Jeff naturally fits our firm’s culture and his strong employee benefits practice is key as we expand our capabilities in Chicago and throughout the firm,” said Amanda Sonneborn, co-managing partner of Seyfarth’s Chicago office.

Bauer earned his J.D., cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law and his LL.M., in Taxation, from Georgetown University Law Center. He received his M.S., in Taxation, and B.S., in Accounting, from the University of Central Florida.
