Eric Boyd Quoted in Metro Canada
"How to Spot Greenwashers Red-Handed"
Environmental partner Eric Boyd was quoted in a March 21 Metro Canada article regarding how to spot greenwashing. Eric explained, "Greenwashing is making statements about the environmental attributes of a service or product that are either false or misleading." The article recognized Seyfarth Shaw as "a major American law firm specializing in green compliance." Eric noted, "My practice has been to help companies make sure they don’t get in trouble under the Federal Trade Commission Green Guides, which prohibit false and misleading advertising.” In the article, Eric points out ways to spot greenwashing including checking the marketing materials on product websites to obtain further details. Eric noted that one of the things the law requires is that companies substantiate general environmental claims and that substantiation should be available somewhere.
