The May 25, 2007 edition of IP Law 360 includes an article noting that Seyfarth Shaw has launched "an intellectual practice in New England with significant experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical and electronics industries" with the addition of Brian Michaelis, Tom Saunders, John Serio and Joe Quinn to the firm's Boston office. Alan Unikel, co-chair of the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group, stated in the article that, "The addition of these significantly experienced lawyers will enhance and strengthen Seyfarth Shaw's established national IP practice." In an interview with Brian, the article explains that, "In Boston specifically, we expect to build a full service intellectual property practice that services clients from procurement to enforcement and all transactional IP needs… I suspect that we'll interface well with our colleagues in Washington and Chicago and California to have what I characterize as a large IP practice with a large domestic footprint." The article concludes with Boston office Managing Partner, Lisa Damon's perspective on the addition of the IP group to the firm's Boston office in light of Governor Deval Patrick's proposed $1billion spending plan in the biotechnology sector over the next ten years: "Seyfarth Shaw is addressing the needs of the strong high tech, biotech, medical device, and life science base in New England and we believe that our expanding IP presence will significantly help our clients in their growing businesses."
