Ilan Barzilay's arrival to the Boston office of Seyfarth Shaw was featured in the January 22, 2010 Law360 article, "Seyfarth Adds IP Vet From Wolf Greenfield." The article noted that Ilan joins Seyfarth's "rapidly expanding" Boston office from Wolf, Greenfield & Sacks P.C. to "nurture" his clients' "growing needs." Ilan explained, "I decided it was time for my practice to be somewhere with a little bit of a bigger platform, national locations, offices everywhere.” The article noted that according to Ilan, IP law is "not always such supremely high technology. That's one of the fun things about being a patent lawyer. You can collect toys, the sample products being patented, so I've got things like scented candles, snowboards and horseshoe hoof pads lying around too.”

According to the article, after interviewing at several large firms, Ilan said he was “impressed with Seyfarth's focus on building its IP practice even more than it already had,” in addition to its “focus on client services.” Russell Swapp, the managing partner of the firm's Boston office, noted, “Ilan shares our commitment to teamwork and superior client service, as well as an appreciation for sophisticated, technology-based service delivery models. He's a great addition to the firm and the Boston office, and we look forward to working with him.”

The article noted that the Boston office, which opened in 1999 with seven attorneys, has grown tremendously. Ilan observed, “It's only about 10 years old, so there aren't too many attorneys that have started their careers here. So you've got all these people coming from different places with different ideas and different personalities, and the office itself is forming its own personality.”
