"Reichert Calls For Speed on Tax Districts"

Atlanta attorney Kevin Brown was quoted in a Macon.com article regarding Macon Mayor Robert Reichert urging not just the Macon City Council but the Bibb County Commission and the school board to move on authorizing establishment of tax allocation districts to fund urban redevelopment. Seyfarth was asked by Mayor Reichert to develop the plan for the districts. According to Kevin, governments can wait years before actually issuing bonds to pay for development projects, but the amount available for those payments can’t be known until the current base amount is set. He added that if local governments don’t move now, they’ll have to wait another 12 months to set the base income for proposed tax allocation district areas.
