Ofer Lion to Speak at USC Gould School of Law 2026 Tax Institute
Ofer Lion, partner in Seyfarth's Corporate department and chair of the firm's Tax Exempt practice, will serve as a speaker for session, "OBBBA Tax Law Changes Affecting Individuals and Closely Held Companies (including bonus depreciation, Section 199A, charitable donations and QSBS)," at the USC Gould School of Law 2026 Tax Institute on January 27 in Los Angeles, California.
The OBBBA made significant changes to the tax rules relevant to U.S. individuals and their closely held companies, including making permanent several key provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, restoring the immediate deductibility of R&D, enhancing and expanding the capital gains exemption for QSBS under Section 1202, and changing the availability of charitable contribution deductions for individuals and corporations. The panel will summarize the key changes and potential strategies for tax planning in some commonly encountered scenarios, as well as closely held business succession planning strategies utilizing nonprofits and special purpose trusts.
