"Should You Seek Legal Counsel Before Outsourcing Printing"
Robert Reynolds Jr. was quoted in the October 1, 2009 issue of The Inlander in the article, "Should You Seek Legal Counsel Before Outsourcing Printing." The article discussed what issues legal counsel should consider when deciding whether to outsource printing. According to Bob, as a newspaper publisher, outsourcing your printing is “an important transaction” that requires taking a “compassionate approach” in the human resources department if there are going to be job losses. He further noted that outsourcing also involves addressing issues such as the consequences of partnering with a vendor who later files for bankruptcy or changes ownership.
Bob pointed out that "…the reason people will do an outsourcing transaction is to get significant cost savings, especially in this economy.” He also suggested that people outsource to improve the quality of service or to get access to more advanced technology. Bob further noted that in some cases, after going through the decision-making process, it may be that a newspaper decides the perceived benefits of outsourcing don’t exceed the potential negatives. He explained, “Even if the decision is, ‘We don’t wish to proceed with the transaction,’ that is so often a better result—certainly better to do that—than to do something that may not fit their business model or their culture. Culture fit is so, so important in these relationships.”
