Seyfarth Announces Inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Day; Chair Emeritus Stephen Poor Receives Champion Award

(May 20, 2016) — Seyfarth Shaw LLP has announced its inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Day. The annual celebration of the firm’s culture of diversity & inclusion coincides with the World Day for Cultural Diversity, a celebration that aligns with many of the firm’s diversity and inclusion values: to continuously strengthen a culture of inclusion; help people of all identities and backgrounds thrive, succeed and lead; and to actively lead and influence efforts to build a more diverse and inclusive legal profession.
 
On this annual day, Seyfarth’s Diversity Action Team will share new initiatives and programs with employees, and recognize stand-out leaders within the firm who have served to move diversity and inclusion initiatives forward both within and outside the firm. The Diversity & Inclusion Champion Award will be presented each year on Seyfarth Diversity & Inclusion Day and recognizes one individual who has served as a champion of Seyfarth’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by driving strategy and awareness for diversity and inclusion, leading by example by promoting an inclusive firm culture, and inspiring others to promote a more diverse and inclusive legal industry.  
 
The inaugural 2016 Diversity & Inclusion Champion Award has been awarded to Steve Poor, Seyfarth’s chair emeritus. In his role as chair of the firm for the past 15 years, and as the executive sponsor and co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Action Team, Poor demonstrated sustained leadership on issues of diversity and inclusion. Through his leadership, the firm has been recognized for the last nine consecutive years for its perfect 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, five consecutive years as a “Top Law Firm for Women” by Working Mother Magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers, and as recipient of the prestigious Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) Thomas L. Sager Award (Midwest) in 2013. Poor was recently named the 2016 Flex Leader Award Honoree by the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance for his work as an “innovative trailblazer in workplace flexibility”.
