HOUSTON (March 4, 2014) — Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that highly regarded real estate partner Peter M. Oxman has joined the firm’s Houston office.  The addition of Oxman marks the continued expansion of the firm’s 130-lawyer national Real Estate Department, recognized as the fourth largest real estate practice in the country. Oxman joins Seyfarth from King & Spalding LLP’s Houston office, where he was a partner in its Capital Transactions and Real Estate practice group.

Oxman has 25 years of experience in a broad range of real estate transactions, including the development, leasing, financing, acquisition and disposition of office, shopping center, industrial, healthcare and residential projects in the U.S. and Latin America. He has considerable experience in negotiating domestic and international joint ventures and multi-jurisdictional portfolio transactions.  In addition, Oxman regularly represents energy industry clients in the real estate aspects of transactions involving LNG and marine terminals, chemical plants, underground storage facilities, and wind and other renewable energy projects. His clients include leading real estate and energy industry developers, investors, fund sponsors, lenders, tenants and governmental agencies.

“Texas and the Southwest have been a focus for our firm and department - the region is flush with real estate opportunities and is critical to our strategy of serving national clients on a national basis.  Peter brings a deep knowledge of this market that will help accelerate our efforts and expand our footprint here,” said Paul Mattingly, chair of Seyfarth’s Real Estate Department.

Oxman is listed in Best Lawyers for Real Estate and is recommended by Legal 500 for Latin American projects.  He holds an AV® Preeminent™ ranking from Martindale Hubbel. Before joining King & Spalding, Oxman was president of a private equity investment company based in Houston and was a partner in the real estate group at Baker Botts LLP.

“Peter is a well-recognized figure in the Houston real estate community, and a great fit for us as we aggressively grow our Real Estate practice in Texas,” said Mark Coffin, managing partner of Seyfarth’s Houston office. “Beyond expanding our on-the-ground skillset in Houston, his experience representing real estate and energy industry clients in national projects, as well as cross-border and international projects, will also be a great catalyst for the firm here.”

Oxman arrives at Seyfarth as the firm is moving into new office space located at Pennzoil Place in Houston, where Seyfarth is implementing an innovative floor plan and cutting edge technology to enhance collaboration and productivity.

“Seyfarth features one of the most compelling real estate practices in the country, as well as an innovative approach to the practice of law, and I’m excited about the immediate opportunities to grow our platform in Houston and work with clients throughout the country,” explained Oxman.

Oxman presently serves as the Co-Chair of the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity’s individual and group mentoring programs for law students in the Houston area. He is a frequent lecturer on real estate law and previously served as a member of the City of Houston Planning Commission. He received his B.A. from Columbia University and earned his J.D., with honors, from Georgetown University Law Center.
