(September 8, 2020) -- Seyfarth announced today that it has been named to Working Mother magazine’s annual “Best Law Firms for Women” list for the 10th straight year and earns a designation in its Hall of Fame. The annual “Best Law Firms for Women” list recognizes 60 firms that utilize best practices in finding, retaining, promoting, and developing women lawyers.

“We’re elated to receive this important recognition once again in 2020 and are extremely proud to enter the Hall of Fame this year,” said Ellen McLaughlin, chair of Seyfarth Women’s Network. “For a decade straight, Seyfarth has earned this honor which reflects the firm’s core values and consistent dedication to gender equity and advancement.”

The full list, available here, highlights law firms that averaged 23 percent women among equity partners. According to Working Mother, these firms also instituted key parental-leave, work-life, and career-advancement initiatives. Seyfarth has steadily increased the number of women in leadership roles across its global platform. Today, over 40 percent of Seyfarth’s executive committee and department leadership are women.

“Law firms on this year’s list were better prepared to respond to the effects of the pandemic because of their continued support of flextime and remote work for working parents and caregivers,” said Subha V. Barry, president of Working Mother Media. “We are proud to recognize their resilience and steadfast commitment to supporting gender equality.”

The 2020 "Best Law Firms for Women" will be celebrated at Working Mother’s virtual conference on September 22nd. Kori S. Carew, Esq., Seyfarth’s chief inclusion and diversity officer, will be a featured speaker.

A recognized industry leader in law firm inclusion and diversity, Seyfarth has instituted several award-winning programs designed to cultivate and retain underrepresented groups. Earlier this year, Seyfarth launched The Belonging Project, a first-of-its-kind nationwide collaborative initiative to proactively combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on inclusion and diversity in the legal profession. In July, the firm was shortlisted for the 2020 Chambers USA Diversity & Inclusion Awards and renewed its commitment to Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule. Notably, the firm launched its own “Rooney Presumption” initiative in 2016 which, inspired by the NFL, has helped improve the hiring of diverse candidates across the firm.
