Seyfarth was named a finalist for the 2022 Thomas L. Sager Award from the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) for its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Seyfarth was among ten finalist firms in Category Five which includes firms with more than 501 lawyers.

The MCCA is committed to advancing the hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse lawyers in law departments and law firms by providing research, best practices, professional development, and training; and through pipeline initiatives.

The Sager Award is presented to Am Law 200 law firms that champion a more diverse and inclusive workforce and have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improving the hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys. The Sager Award was first presented in 1999 and is named after former DuPont Senior Vice President and General Counsel Thomas L. Sager, a widely-respected leader in diversity and inclusion in the legal industry. MCCA determines the finalists and winners for the Sager Award based on its extensive review of the 2022 MCCA Law Firm Diversity Survey submissions.

A recognized industry leader in law firm inclusion and diversity, Seyfarth has instituted many award-winning programs designed to cultivate and retain underrepresented groups. These include our innovative “Rooney Presumption” initiative to help improve the hiring of diverse candidates across the firm; our Triad mentoring program which provides high-potential associates a mentor and sponsor from leadership ranks; the Ally Program, which provides guidance to partners on being an effective ally; the Belonging Project, a national collaborative to build community among law students and attorneys from underrepresented groups and their allies to combat the impact of COVID-19 on diversity in the profession; and ongoing training on inclusive leadership, including a robust resource library available to everyone at the firm. Seyfarth’s contribution to inclusion and diversity in the profession has been widely recognized, including receiving a Sager Award in 2013.
