Boston (October 21, 2010) — Seyfarth Shaw LLP partner Jeffrey L. Musman was honored today as one of Boston’s “Leaders in Diversity” at the Boston Business Journal’s Leaders in Diversity event at the Westin Boston Waterfront.
Musman was one of seven individuals and three companies that the Boston Business Journal honored for their leadership in promoting inclusiveness and economic opportunity.
"Providing economic opportunity to a wider cross-section of Bostonians and promoting more diversity are key components to making Boston a better place to live and work," Chris McIntosh, publisher of the Boston Business Journal, wrote in an article about the event: "We're pleased to honor individuals and companies that are taking the lead."
Musman is a long-standing member of Seyfarth’s national Diversity Action Team, and for many years has served as a co-chair of the Diversity Action Team for the firm’s Boston office. Musman is involved in the overall planning, progress and integration of the firm’s national diversity efforts, including a two-year strategic plan for diversity, focusing on recruitment, development, firm-wide engagement and community visibility. Locally, he and his team develop customized plans, activities and local outreach, including: active participation in the Boston Lawyers Group; developing and hosting for the last two years a conference and panel discussion for African American professionals in Boston and around the country; and, implementing a community service day in Dudley Square where Seyfarth’s Boston office participated in legal clinics, the food pantry and other area of need.
Musman has served on the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Massachusetts since 2003, including serving as vice chair of the board since 2009 and currently as chair of the board, which will hold its 2011 Annual Conference in Boston. The event last took place in the city nearly 40 years ago. Additionally, Musman has committed Seyfarth to participate in the Commonwealth Compact. Its mission is to improve the representation of people of color and women throughout their organizations and ensure that Boston is perceived to be a welcoming place for all people.
