BOSTON (April 16, 2014) - Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Boston partner David M. Bizar has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers (ACCFSL).

Founded in 1996, The American College of Consumer Financial Service Lawyers, Inc. is a professional association of lawyers particularly skilled and experienced in handling consumer financial services matters and dedicated to the improvement and enhancement of the skill and practice of consumer financial services law and the ethics of the profession. The College brings together into an association qualified members of the profession who, by reason of their character, skill and ability, will contribute to the accomplishments and good fellowship of the College. Membership to the College is by invitation only.

“Particularly in today’s environment of enhanced regulatory and enforcement challenges, the College’s missions have perhaps never been more important,” said Bizar. “I am honored to be recognized by this esteemed group of the top practitioners in the field.” Bizar represents consumer banks and financial services companies in high-stakes disputes in the courts and before government authorities challenging the legality of their products and services, corporate practices and regulatory adherence.  He has defended numerous class actions, government investigations and enforcement proceedings, and individual cases with systemic exposure for national banks and federal thrifts, mortgage lenders and servicers, manufacturer and third party automotive finance companies, credit card issuers, short-term lenders, and large national retailers. Bizar co-vice chairs the Litigation and Arbitration Subcommittee of the Consumer Financial Services Committee of the American Bar Association.

“David co-leads a team of 30 Seyfarth lawyers in their delivery of legal services to the firm’s consumer financial services litigation clients,” explained Kate Perrelli, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation Department. “David is an accomplished litigator who continues to stand out as a renowned authority in the consumer finance space. I am delighted that the College has appreciated in David what we and our clients see from him every day.”

Membership in the College is limited to those lawyers whose principal practice is in the field of consumer financial services law, who have achieved preeminence in the field of consumer financial services law and who have made repeated and substantial contributions to the promotion of learning and scholarship in consumer financial services law through teaching, lecturing and published writings.
