LOS ANGELES (November 7, 2014) - Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Los Angeles corporate partner Douglas M. Mancino has been elected into The American Law Institute (ALI). In addition, Mancino will serve as an adviser to ALI’s Restatement of the Law Third Charitable Nonprofit Organizations.

The American Law Institute is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. ALI (made up of 4000 lawyers, judges, and law professors of the highest qualifications) drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education. By participating in the Institute's work, its distinguished members have the opportunity to influence the development of the law in both existing and emerging areas, to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics, to give back to a profession to which they are deeply dedicated, and to contribute to the public good. For more than 40 years, Mancino has represented all types of health care and nonprofit organizations on tax, business, and financial matters. He has extensive experience in audits, appeals and other tax controversies, including tax litigation. He has served as counsel to health care clients in a case that defined the limits of tax-exempt organizations participating in health care joint ventures and represents tax-exempt health plans throughout the United States. A frequent speaker and writer on many legal, tax and health care subjects, Mancino is a former president of the American Health Lawyers Association and served for three years as publications vice-chair of the American Bar Association’s Tax Section.

Mancino is active in many civic and charitable activities. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Burn Foundation, and a member of the Boards of Directors of the Irvine Health Foundation, The Center on Philanthropy & Public Policy and Health Net, Inc. (NYSE). He is also a member of the Executive Board and an executive vice president of the Music Center Leadership Council.
