Veteran Consumer Class Action and Financial Services Litigator Pearson to Co-Chair Consumer Financial Services Litigation Practice
LOS ANGELES (August 22, 2012) — Leading law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Scott M. Pearson has joined the firm as a partner in the Litigation Department and co-chair of the Consumer Financial Services Litigation Practice Group. Pearson joins Seyfarth’s Los Angeles office from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.
With a practice concentrated in complex commercial litigation and consumer law, Pearson is a leader in defending consumer financial services class actions and governmental enforcement actions. On behalf of financial institutions, Pearson has successfully defended more than 70 class actions and hundreds of other cases involving credit cards, mortgages, retail banking, real estate, auto lending and student loans.
In addition to financial work, he has managed other types of complex litigation, including claims against directors and shareholders, securities class actions and arbitrations, antitrust cases, intellectual property disputes, false advertising claims, data security and privacy matters, and large contract disputes.
Co-chairing the Consumer Financial Services Litigation Practice Group with David Bizar, Pearson sees increased opportunities to continue guiding his clients successfully through their most challenging and significant disputes. “I look forward to offering my clients the advantages created by Seyfarth’s platform as we tackle the nation’s cutting-edge legal issues,” said Pearson. “Seyfarth, recognized as a leading innovator, is leagues ahead in understanding clients’ businesses and needs, and is uniquely positioned to help them navigate today’s litigious marketplace.”
“Scott is a one of the leading financial services litigators in the country, and he immediately strengthens both our West Coast and national capabilities,” explained Bizar, who practices out of Seyfarth’s Boston office. “We are thrilled that Scott has chosen to join Seyfarth and we look forward to adding Scott’s depth to our top-tier position to provide the highest quality service to our clients.”
“Today’s widening intersection of commercial litigation and consumer law puts Seyfarth at the forefront of issues emerging from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and state Attorneys General,” said Katherine Perrelli, chair of Seyfarth’s Litigation Department. “Representing some of the largest financial institutions and credit card companies in the country, Scott’s experience and leadership will be an invaluable asset to our clients and we look forward to his contributions.”
Pearson also serves as General Counsel of the Green Beret Foundation and represents various chapters of the Special Forces Association, individual veterans and the Exotic Feline Conservation Center on a pro bono basis. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Pearson received his B.A. degree from Claremont McKenna College and his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law Center.
