Seyfarth Shaw Hosted the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms' (Chicago Committee) Annual Summer Soirée
Seyfarth Shaw hosted the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms' (Chicago Committee) annual Summer Soirée on Thursday, June 28. Partners, associates and summer associates from the firm joined over 200 minority attorneys and summer associates from Chicago's largest law firms, corporate legal departments, and government offices to socialize, network and hear former Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta’s keynote address. Secretary Mineta was the first Asian American to hold a senior position in a presidential cabinet when President Clinton appointed him Secretary of Commerce in 2000 and later served as President Bush’s Secretary of Transportation. Secretary Mineta’s speech addressed the role that diverse attorneys in the U.S. can play in law firms, corporations and government in the context of today's global business environment.
The Chicago Committee has worked to advance racial and ethnic diversity in Chicago's largest law firms for 20 years. Knowing that Seyfarth Shaw’s vision is to be a role model for diversity in the legal community by driving a culture of inclusion and respect, Labor and Employment Group Partner Sang-yul Lee invited the Chicago Committee to hold its summertime gala event at the firm’s Chicago office. Venu Gupta, the Executive Director of the Chicago Committee, noted her appreciation for the firm’s hospitality and looked forward to collaborating with Seyfarth Shaw on future endeavors.
