Seyfarth Shaw Recognized by American Cancer Society as Top Fund Raiser in Illinois
Chicago, IL (August 30, 2005) - - Seyfarth Shaw LLP, one of America's leading full service law firms, has been recognized by the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society (ACS) as the top Relay for Life fund raiser in the state. Seyfarth Shaw raised more than $55,000 for cancer research, prevention and early detection programs, advocacy and patient services. The firm is a return participant in the Northwestern University Relay For Life event, which was held on May 21 and 22. This year's support represents a 37% increase over the $40,000 raised last year.
Seyfarth Shaw's efforts were spearheaded by firm partners and event co-team captains, David Rowland, managing partner of the firm's Chicago office, and Edward Karlin, chair of the firm's Business Services Practice Group. "Our participation in Relay For Life is a genuine expression of our positive commitment to an exceptionally worthy cause," explained Rowland. "We are honored to be counted among many who have given their time and support to help the Society in its fight against cancer," added Karlin. For its initiative in raising over $50,000, Seyfarth Shaw was named a member of the ACS National Team Program.
Relay For Life is an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money to support the life-saving mission of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. This year, 3 million Relay For Life participants in 4,300 communities across the country will raise millions of dollars to fuel the American Cancer Society's mission. Relay For Life is the largest special event in history.
"The American Cancer Society is deeply appreciative of the personal commitment and generous charitable support Seyfarth Shaw has given to the fight against cancer," stated Steve Derks, CEO of the Society’s Illinois Division. “All the monies raised by Seyfarth Shaw illustrate the power of a community of volunteers coming together to make a difference in the cancer fight."
