Seyfarth Shaw's New LEED-Certified Atlanta Office Highlighted in National Real Estate Investor
"Some Swanky Law Offices Shrink as Legal Eagles Go Green"
According to a new report by real estate services firm CB Richard Ellis, a number of the top law firms are taking stock of their energy consumption and carbon emissions, and developing a new strategy. Law offices traditionally demand high square footage per attorney, with their massive file storage and library requirements, and sky-high lighting costs, particularly since employees spend many evenings and weekends poring over legal tomes. But the new trend is to shrink attorney space with open floor plans, shared workstations, and team environments.
For many firms, going green starts with site selection. In locating its Atlanta office, Seyfarth picked a building in Midtown that was already LEED certified, the report notes. The office also earned LEED CI V2 Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its interior construction, which features a number of environmental design and construction practices, including: an emphasis on natural lighting, recycling of construction waste, an onsite recycling center, green janitorial processes, automatic lighting dimmers and other features.
