New York, NY (June 1, 2009)—Seyfarth Shaw LLP, one of America’s leading full-service law firms, today announced that Esteban A. (“Steve”) Ferrer has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Corporate & Finance Practice Group. He was previously a partner at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP.

In addition to his considerable talents as a practicing attorney, Ferrer will make a significant contribution to the firm in leading the national Corporate & Finance Practice Group. Ferrer, who previously led his former firm’s Corporate Department, is a transactional attorney whose practice is focused on: general corporate, corporate governance, corporate finance, federal securities law and mergers and acquisitions (including strategic corporate alliances). His practice includes a special focus in the healthcare and biotechnology fields. Fluent in Spanish, Ferrer has experience in a variety of cross-border transactions in Latin America.

“Steve is a recognized leader in corporate law who embodies the entrepreneurial spirit,” said J. Stephen Poor, Chair and Managing Partner of Seyfarth Shaw. “His move to Seyfarth Shaw reflects the stature our corporate practice has earned over the past several years. We are very excited about the role that Steve will play in continuing the growth of our group nationally.”

Seyfarth Shaw’s Corporate & Finance attorneys serve a diverse client base, ranging from start-up ventures to middle market companies to large multinational corporations. The breadth of the team’s knowledge allows them to guide clients through myriad legal issues. Since corporate matters frequently involve aspects of many legal disciplines, the firm’s corporate attorneys regularly draw on the resources of Seyfarth Shaw’s other practice areas such as employee benefits, intellectual property, labor and employment, real estate, environmental and bankruptcy to deliver coordinated, seamless service to clients. In this way, clients receive full attention from dedicated, focused business attorneys, as well as reap the benefits of a full-service law firm.

“The addition of Steve to our office helps to round out the corporate practice we’ve been building in New York in order to be well positioned to serve our clients as the deal economy thaws,” said John P. Napoli, Co-Managing Partner of Seyfarth Shaw’s New York office and Chair of the firm’s Tax Practice Group. “Steve is a trusted counselor to respected senior business people in New York and internationally. We’re delighted to welcome him to our team.”

Seyfarth Shaw first opened its New York office in 1979 with seven attorneys. Today, the office is home to over 100 lawyers, many of whom are also admitted to practice in New Jersey and Connecticut. Practices represented in the New York office include: Bankruptcy, Workouts & Business Reorganization; Commercial Class Action Defense; Commercial Litigation; Corporate; Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation; Labor & Employment; Real Estate; Securities & Financial Litigation; Structured & Real Estate Finance; Tax; and Trade Secrets, Computer Fraud, & Non-Competes.

Ferrer, a native of Havana, Cuba, received his B.A. degree from Dickinson College and his J.D. from Columbia Law School. He is a member of the boards of directors of Cancer Care, Goodwill Industries of Connecticut and Reach Prep. Ferrer is admitted to practice in the states of New York and Connecticut.

“Seyfarth Shaw has a strong national platform with attorneys who can assist me with delivering my clients both the breadth and depth of knowledge they need to help them meet their strategic goals,” Ferrer said. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues in New York and throughout the firm.”
