Seyfarth's Cameron Weil, Michael Lobie, and Jiten Patel were named leaders in three different sections of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) committees for 2023. Cameron Weil was appointed as the chair of the Real Estate Investment Trusts committee. Jiten Patel was appointed as the chair of the Hotels, Resorts and Tourisms committee. Michael Lobie was chosen as the vice-chair of the Federal Taxation of Real Estate committee.

The Real Estate Investment Trusts committee of the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section focuses on the real estate, tax and securities issues related to REITs including equity REITs, mortgage REITs and hybrid REITs, and provides Section members with programming and publications to understand effectively the intricacies related to the use of REITs and doing business with REITs. This committee also examines the utilization of REITs in private equity funds, foreign investment in U.S. real estate, and capital raising efforts.

The Hotels, Resorts and Tourisms committee considers matters relevant to the acquisition, development, financing, operation and disposition of hotels and resorts, and related developments and amenities.

The Federal Taxation of Real Estate committee's purpose is to acquaint real estate practitioners with tax issues affecting their transactions, to provide practitioners with current information regarding new cases, laws and regulations, and to monitor proposed legislation and regulations with a view toward providing input in the process.
