Seyfarth Shaw Corporate Department partner Theodore Cornell was featured in a Q&A in Law360 on November 7. Ted was asked which was the most challenging transaction he has worked on, which aspects of his practice area is in need of reform, what is an important deal or relevant issue to his practice area, which mistake he made early in his career and learned from it, and he was asked to name an attorney outside of his firm, in his field, who has impressed him.

Ted described a sale of a steel company in which he was able to obtain an unusual environmental insurance policy to enable the closing for his client. He also suggested that in the world of mergers and acquisitions, "reform in the guise of regulation is not needed."

A relevant issue to Ted's practice is the fact that there is a lot of liquidity available for businesses to expand and acquire. He states that until Washington gets "together with a cogent fiscal policy to get the economy moving again…fear and uncertainty will keep cash on the sidelines."

Early in his career, Ted said that he was called in for a review, and after he was acknowledged for doing everything he was told and the work he did was good, he was told that it wasn't enough. Ted took to heart that to excel, one must "go the extra mile."

Ted also praised Frank Bradley from law firm Greenberg & Traurig in Houston as someone who "gets to the heart of issues, gets things done and always has a pleasant demeanor."
