Tonya Esposito and Renée Appel Invited to Present Quarterly Webinars to Members of the National Retail Federation

Tonya Esposito and Renée Appel, attorneys in Seyfarth's Product Liability group, presented a webinar for the National Retail Federation on November 21, 2019.

As a follow-up to their October 29th presentation to the Food Safety Task Force and Food Supply Chain Committee of the National Retail Federation (NRF) in Washington, DC, Tonya and Renee were asked to present to the NRF membership on a quarterly basis about developments related to cannabidiol (CBD). In the first of these webinars, on November 21, 2019, Tonya and Renee discussed 1) the fundamentals of cannabis, including the distinctions between marijuana, hemp, and forms of CBD; 2) lessons from the Food and Drug Administration and Federal Trade Commission's warnings letters to companies selling CBD products; 3) the status of the FDA's regulatory review of CBD since its May 31, 2019 public hearing; 4) lobbying efforts from trade associations and Congress; and 5) the patchwork of marijuana laws affecting the CBD market between the federal government and states.
