Arren Goldman, partner in Seyfarth's Real Estate department and co-leader of the firm's Distressed Situations team, and Stanley Jutkowitz, senior counsel in Seyfarth's Corporate department and leader of the firm’s Cannabis Law practice, are serving as presenters for the Mortgage Bankers Association webinar "Marijuana and Real Estate in 2022: What Every CRE Professional Should Know" on October 19, 2022. 

The webinar will give an overview of the federal and state laws concerning marijuana that are impacting lenders, loan servicers, and investors in 2022, including the Controlled Substances Act, federal tax laws, banking laws, anti-money laundering laws, and state laws legalizing marijuana. Presenters will discuss legislation that has been introduced in Congress, the prospects for passage of this legislation, such as the SAFE Banking Act and the MORE Act, and how this legislation would impact lending to and investing in marijuana use real estate.

The webinar will provide a broad view of what type of entities are funding the marijuana industry and the risks involved in owning and lending to marijuana businesses, as well as how investing in a marijuana business or lending with marijuana use real estate as collateral is different than other industries.
