Bart Lazar was quoted in the article, "Unraveling the Web of New Legislation,” which appeared in the January 1, 2009 issue of Information Today. The article discussed how, with a new president and heavily Democratic House of Representatives, and a near-fillbusterproof Senate, new and returning legislators are faced with a host of issues, including privacy, anti-spam, and identity theft. The article noted that the new president is committed to appointing a high-level official to oversee technology concerns, so attention to many of these issues will not be delayed for long. One issue likely to come to the forefront, according to experts, is stronger privacy laws tied to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. According to Bart, even if legislative action is slow, more legal actions could arise if the Federal Trade Commission starts to more strictly enforce laws that are already on the books.
