Bob Nobile Quoted in the New York Post

“Fat Chance, NYPD”

Bob Nobile was quoted in the article, “Fat Chance, NYPD,” published in the January 18, 2008 issue of the New York Post. The article notes that unlike firefighters, New York City police officers are only required to be checked for physical fitness in the Academy.

Bob noted that anti-discrimination laws like the ADA have made it harder for organizations to set weight, height or fitness standards. He observed, “The courts really frown upon discrimination against obesity.” Bob further noted that like the fire department, the NYPD would probably have little trouble proving that physical fitness is essential to the job of an active duty police officer.
