Boston Office Sponsors Successful Symposium on Challenges in Managing Health Care in Central America
“Health Care Management in Central America: Challenges in 2007”
With Salomon Chiquiar-Rabinovich as president of the The New England-Latin America Business Council (NELABC), the Boston office along with client Genzyme and the NELABC held a two-day (February 5-7) conference where the dignitaries from Costa Rica, El Salvador, and Guatemala, presented the issues inherent in managing health care in Central America before members of NELABC which is composed of leading regional business professionals. The event, “Health Care Management in Central America: Challenges in 2007,” was planned as a forum to identify and assess the most effective means to deliver practical and beneficial health care assistance in Central America. Most of the governments of Central America and the Dominican Republic have signed or ratified a trade agreement with the United States (DR-CAFTA), while Panama is in the process of negotiating a similar agreement. NELABC’s mission is to promote and facilitate the development of business and investment opportunities between New England and Latin America. As such, it is essential for the companies affiliated to NELABC, particularly those interested in the health sector, to obtain first hand knowledge of the present state of the invited countries’ health systems. Along with their meetings with members of the NELABC, the visiting officials met Boston Mayor Mayor Tom Menino and local health care leaders associated with the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA).
