SHRM quoted Camille Olson in its article, “House Is Considering Bills to Clarify Workers’ Classification,” on August 22. Olson discussed Congress's consideration of bills to redefine worker classification and labor laws, which could significantly impact gig workers, small businesses, and labor relations nationwide.

“One of the most significant measures, the Modern Worker Empowerment Act, H.R. 1319, would amend the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) to provide a consistent definition of independent contractor status under these two laws. This consistency would reduce litigation over whether a worker is an employee or contractor for the purposes of unionization rights under the NLRA and minimum wage and overtime under the FLSA.”
