Camille Olson Quoted in Employee Benefit News
"Fair Pay Act: Devil's in the Details"
Camille Olson was quoted in the January 29, 2009 Employee Benefit News article, "Fair Pay Act: Devil's in the Details." The article discussed the President's signing of the Paycheck Fairness Act. According to Camille, the "act provides a statue of limitations clock that re-starts each time an employee receives a paycheck." As a result, the statue of limitations is indefinite and thereby "encourages plaintiffs to sue over employment decisions made long ago -- and to characterize them as 'continuing violations' -- to increase the size and scope of damage recoveries in both single-plaintiff and class action lawsuits," Camille noted. Camille also suggested that companies retain documentation on current employees that stretches indefinitely throughout their employment, detailing "the legitimate non-discriminatory reasons for employment decisions that have a lasting impact on their pay."
