Camille Olson Quoted in Presstime
“U. S. Supreme Court Tackles Several Cases on Employment Law”
Camille Olson was quoted in the article, “U. S. Supreme Court Tackles Several Cases on Employment Law,” published in the December issue of Presstime, the flagship publication of the Newspaper Association of America. The article explores four cases before the United States Supreme Court that are of particular interest to newspaper companies in their capacity as employers. Three cases examine discrimination issues with regard to race or age and a fourth case examines whether an employer can be sued for failing to act on an employee’s request to make changes to his employee benefit plan.
Camille notes that the court has generally proven employer friendly in recent years. She also points to a case brought by a former employee of a leading telecommunications company who claims she was terminated because of her age. The court is addressing whether the testimony concerning allegedly discriminatory treatment of other employees who had different supervisors than the claimant is relevant to her case. Camille notes that this case is particularly important because it would apply to issues of age and claims brought under other non-discrimination statutes involving race, sex, religion, national origin and disability.
