Camille Olson's Testimony Before Senate HELP Committee on ENDA Reported in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin
"On Workplace Bias Law, Look to Illinois, Madigan Says"
Camille Olson's testimony before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on November 5th regarding the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009 (ENDA) was reported in the November 5, 2009 Chicago Daily Law Bulletin article, "On Workplace Bias Law, Look to Illinois, Madigan Says." Camille's testimony provided helpful insights into the legal ambiguities of some of the current language and offered practical solutions to address those uncertainties to ensure employers and employees understand their rights and obligations under ENDA. According to the article, Camille told the committee that the federal proposal needs some cleaning up. Camille, who also teaches employment law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, pointed out that, in addition to making some of the definitions more specific, the measure needs to be clarified to eliminate the possibility of double recovery under the proposed legislation and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
