Camille Olson's Testimony Before Senate HELP Committee on ENDA Reported in the Daily Labor Report
"Supporters Tell Senate Panel ENDA Necessary; Opponents Criticize Provisions"
Camille Olson's testimony before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on November 5th regarding the Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2009 (ENDA) was reported in the November 6, 2009 Daily Labor Report article, "Supporters Tell Senate Panel ENDA Necessary; Opponents Criticize Provisions." Camille's testimony provided helpful insights into the legal ambiguities of some of the current language and offered practical solutions to address those uncertainties to ensure employers and employees understand their rights and obligations under ENDA. According to the article, Camille noted that guidance for employers with respect to restroom usage is “glaringly absent” from the Senate bill. She pointed out in her testimony, “Employers should be provided the same flexibility that H.R. 3017 provides employers with respect to shared shower or dressing facilities by expressly permitting employers to decide which restrooms transitioning employees will have access to so long as they are permitted ‘reasonable access to adequate’ restrooms."
