Employment attorney Dana Howells was quoted in a March 4, 2011 Daily Journal article regarding the effect California’s strict employment laws may have on state job growth. The article discusses the findings of a study released recently by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The study, which was based on an analysis conducted by Seyfarth Shaw, analyzes the impact of various nationwide labor and employment laws on job creation and ranks states whose employment laws hinder or promote new job formation. According to the study, California has one of the worst job growth ratings in the nation, and “is known for its persistent budget woes and debt, high taxes, and complex employment laws and regulations.”

“It’s hard for even established businesses to cope with having two sets of laws to look at that are often contradictory,” remarked Dana. “It can’t help but have some deterrent effect on staying in California or setting up a business here.”
