Los Angeles of counsel Dana Howells was quoted in the Daily Journal discussing how health care reform could impact employers who classify large numbers of employees as contractors as a way of saving on medical insurance. As part of the new law, many of those employers will now be forced to add those workers to their company-provided health plans.

“Employers generally cover employees, not temps and independent contractors,” Dana said. “Now those people will have to have coverage. We know the Department of Labor is going to crack down on misclassified people. With that segment of the workforce, a lot of those people will go onto employers plans. There will be pressure on employers to classify people more correctly.”
