“Divisive Discussions”
As the November 2 mid-term elections draw near and the frequency of political advertising increases, so does the potential for heated workplace discussions. In the October 8 issue of Human Resource Executive, Chicago partner David Baffa explains that although there is no law barring political speech in the workplace, most companies should discourage such discussions.
"To have an atmosphere where employees are engaged in a vigorous political debate... an employer, for business reasons, may not want to have that kind of environment," Dave says.
"It ultimately comes down to discrimination," Dave says. "It's important to be consistent as to the subject matter."
