David Kadue was quoted and Seyfarth Shaw's 2010 California Peculiarities book was featured in the National Law Journal article, "It's California—The Rules in the Workplace are Different Here,” published April 1, 2010. The article reported on the publication of the latest edition of the book, which has been published annually for the past decade, and highlights the most recent quirks in California labor and employment law. According to the article, David, the principal author of the book, said the 2010 edition addresses recent lawsuits alleging that certain employees, such as cashiers, should be provided seats while on the job. David told the NLJ that during the coming year, he predicts that suits will be filed alleging that employers are forcing employees to falsely state their time records in violation of California's Labor Code.

David was asked a series of question about this year's book and what makes California so unique. For example, he highlighted meal and rest pay as something very specific to California law. David also explained that one of the quirkiest California laws is the vacation rule, which says that vacation must be paid upon termination, and it's deemed to vest on a daily basis. In terms of what David sees on the horizon, he noted that "in 2008, there was a new law that made it unlawful for an employer to require an employee to falsely certify his or her time. There have been no lawsuits filed under the provision yet, but it's only a matter of time before there are."
