Devjani Mishra was quoted in the February 4, 2010 SHRM Online article, “Twitter Recruiter Raises Legal Concerns.” The article discussed employment recruiting efforts using Twitter and the negative legal impact if it is not used properly.

According to the article, management attorneys caution that there are legal issues when recruiting on Twitter, such as obtaining too much information about an applicant. Social pages can show race, age, and gender in addition to disclosing their personal views on controversial topics. Devjani noted, “Twitter is an increasingly popular medium and just as previous generations of recruiters have used print, radio and TV to get their name out, Web 2.0 savvy businesses are not going to pass up the opportunity. Given that a Tweet is only 140 characters, it’s hard to do much more than provide a link to a more traditional-looking posting on another site—be it the company’s own site or some other kind of job board—where you can include a full job description, required qualifications and application process. The upside, however, is that it allows you to make sure that your existing application process, which is presumably well-designed and thought out, continues to be followed as a Twitterer evolves into an applicant and candidate."
