Devjani Mishra was quoted in the July 28, 2009 SHRM Online article, “Twitter with Care: Web 2.0 Usage Offers Few Second Chances.” The article discussed the need for companies to develop social networking policies that balance employee privacy and the employee’s obligations of undivided loyalty to the company. According to the article, although Twitter and Facebook are revolutionizing the way companies do business, employees may accidentally divulge confidential information, company secrets, or personal information about themselves repeatedly, which not only could embarrasses their employer but may also put the company at risk of incurring significant legal fees. The article noted several cases where employees made social networking mistakes, such as when a Michigan city mayor accidentally Tweeted the confidential information and social security numbers of all city employees. ,

Devjani noted that now, more than ever, companies have to be especially careful about how their employees use social networking sites. She added that employers risk being sued if employees use these mechanisms to make discriminatory or harassing remarks.
