Erica Bakies Profiled by Law360 as a 2025 Rising Star for Government Contracts

In her profile, Bakies reflected on her most significant case: representing a foreign individual in the purchase of a large US government contractor. In 2021, she led a team that reviewed hundreds of contracts to assess the risks involved and identify any potential obstacles to the transaction.

"It was a great outcome for the client," Bakies said. "They were super happy, but it was so many moving pieces around so many different parts of my practice, and it was such a big dollar value. That's probably the biggest deal of my career."

Looking ahead, Bakies believes artificial intelligence and emerging technologies will significantly reshape how—and what—the federal government procures.

“I'm excited for the world of government procurement in the next 10 years,” she said. “I think reliance on those innovative technologies is going to be beneficial to the government and to industry, and hopefully that just means everybody complies more and the war fighter gets its best products at the best price.”
