WASHINGTON, D.C. (November 12, 2013) – Seyfarth Shaw announced today the arrival of veteran labor and employment lawyer Lawrence Lorber, who was the head of Proskauer’s Washington, D.C. employment practice immediately prior to joining Seyfarth.

A well-recognized figure in Washington, D.C., Lorber previously served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor and Director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). He was also appointed by Congress as one of the five original directors of the U.S. Congress’ Office of Compliance, the federal agency established to administer and enact the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995.

“Larry is one of the nation’s leading authorities on the intersection of employment law and policy,” said Lisa Damon, chair of Seyfarth’s Labor & Employment Department. “Working closely with both Republican and Democratic administrations, he has helped implement a number of laws which continue to shape today’s labor and employment landscape. We’re excited to welcome him to our team and know that he’ll be a tremendous resource for our clients.”

Lorber counsels and represents employers in connection with all aspects of labor and employment law, including EEO issues, affirmative action, OFCCP and Department of Labor audits, wage and hour issues, employment aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions, employee discipline and the preparation of employee handbooks and human resource policies. He also advises clients with respect to government contract issues, and he conducts employee investigations and advises clients with respect to Congressional and regulatory matters.

Frequently called upon by Congress, Lorber has testified on the potential impact of a wide range of proposed employment legislation and writes extensively on these issues as well. He has also served as chairperson of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Equal Employment Opportunity Committee for more than a decade.

Lorber is a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, and earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law and his B.A. from Brooklyn College of the City of University of New York.
