Illinois Passes New Anti-Discrimination Law
On January 11 and 12, 2005, the Illinois Legislature passed a landmark bill (SB 3186) banning discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) persons in the workplace. By passing this law, Illinois joins 13 other states that have banned such discrimination: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin. The District of Columbia also prohibits sexual orientation discrimination.
