“International Law Firm Network,” co-authored by partners Brian S. Cousin and Jonathan Evan Goldberg, identifies types of organizational structures to which a client can turn when faced with the need for international legal services, such as the establishment of a global employment and benefits solution or, in the case of large international litigations and arbitrations, the pre- or post-judgment attachment of assets in various countries.  In addition to “law firms” and “affiliations,” the chapter discusses the creation of a “custom fit” international law firm network, what the authors call the “special teams” structure, whereby the client retains lead counsel who then retains top practitioners in various practice areas and geographic regions for specific, complex international projects.  As noted by the authors, the “special teams” structure -- which Messrs. Cousin and Goldberg have established and utilized in their practices -- is, among other things, a flexible, hybrid structure that allows for the size, geographic presence, consistency, quality, and efficiency to tackle even the most complex legal matters.  The chapter also identifies resources for creating an international law firm network and provides a checklist for creating such a network.
