Law360 Names Pamela Devata a 2013 Rising Star in Employment Law

CHICAGO (March 12, 2013) - Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Chicago office Labor & Employment partner Pamela Devata was selected by Law360 as a Rising Star in the Employment category. Based on work completed throughout the course of her legal career, Devata was chosen as one of five from a pool of nearly 1,000 nominees in the publication’s annual award for outstanding attorneys under the age of 40.

Devata began her focus on background checks in the hiring process shortly after she joined Seyfarth in 2001. Since then, she has counseled hundreds of employers and background screening companies on their compliance obligations under the law and litigated numerous single plaintiff and class action cases dealing with Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)  and similar state law claims. Her extensive knowledge on the subject gained nationwide recognition when she was called to testify before the EEOC in 2010 on the use of credit history in employment.

Devata’s reputation as a national authority on the FCRA and its implications regarding background screening, compliance and defense, is highlighted in her March 8 Law360 Rising Star profile, as well as her ability to “secure key victories in groundbreaking cases against the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and private plaintiffs.” Her several “notched wins” on behalf of companies facing FCRA claims also led to her designation as a Rising Star, and Law360 cited her significant successes on behalf of Kaplan Higher Education Corp. and American Enterprise Services Co. as examples of her legal acumen.
