Lynn Kappelman Quoted in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly
“Verdict reflects trend in employment disputes”

Seyfarth Shaw Boston partner Lynn Kappelman was quoted in the January 9 issue of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. The article discusses the recent trend and the damage that can be done to a company's reputation when faced with a claim that it illegally retaliated against an employee in connection with a discrimination claim.

Lynn notes that it is the retaliation claim that can be the more difficult for company's to defend: "Don't discount that retaliation claim, because quiet often it's the tail that wags the dog. Even if [the plaintiff has] a hard-to-win discrimination case, it's often the retaliation claim that is so hard for management to defend."

She also remarks that to help clients defend the retaliation claim, she urges them, "to make sure they can trace the termination, demotion or adverse employment decision that took place before the employee filed the complaint."
