Webinar Recording: Managing 2020 Labor Relations Concerns

2020 has featured two distinct crises, both of which have changed the landscape around organized labor.  These crises will be (and already have been) utilized by labor unions in their approaches to organizing, elections, and bargaining.  We’re seeing an uptick in organizing, as unions are using public relations, government affairs, and social media platforms to appeal to employees during the crises.  We’ve also seen increased pressure being placed on non-profits in particular.  Now, more than ever, employers must plan thoughtfully as they work to avoid being the subject of a union’s tactics.  Employers should create plans to communicate about and moderate the effects of organizing and the filing of a petition – both of which are challenging with employees working remotely, working fewer shifts, or on leave.  At the same time, employers with existing collective bargaining relationships need to maintain labor-management relations in the face of increasing union demands and challenging financial conditions.

This webinar recording provides tips on how to handle all stages of labor relations issues (for both union and non-union employers) in today’s times.

Key topics include:

  • Reviewing the strategies unions are using to mobilize or organize employees
  • Developing strategies that will help to avoid or curtail protected, concerted activity or union organizing, including newly permitted strategies by the current Board
  • Reviewing the NLRB’s current rules and regulations for handling and processing election petitions and tips for how to respond to an election petition and run a campaign in today’s environment
  • Outlining the law on changing terms and conditions of employment terms under an existing labor agreement and how to bargain them in an initial contract or expired agreement
  • Reviewing the bargaining objectives we are seeing among both employers and unions

Who should listen:  In-house employment and labor counsel and human resources and labor relations professionals for both unionized and nonunion employers
