Mark Lies Quoted in SHRM
“OSHA Policy on Safety Incentives Makes Waves”
Seyfarth Shaw Labor & Employment partner Mark Lies is quoted in a November 30 SHRM article discussing the new Occupational Safety and Health Administration-issued memo that encourages companies to change incentive programs based on voluntary policy. Mark suggests in order to steer clear of whistle-blowing ramifications of this new policy, employers should add a nonretaliation clause to their incentive policy, and they should also add other types of incentives that are not based upon injury and illness rates, i.e. awards for making safety suggestions, attending safety committee meetings and identifying hazards.
