Marshall Babson Quoted in The New York Times
“Labor Board’s Exiting Leader Responds to Critics”
New York labor partner Marshall Babson is quoted in an Aug. 29 article in The New York Times regarding National Labor Board Chairwoman Wilma B. Liebman’s decision to step down from the embattled agency and not seek another term. The article largely focuses on the vitriol and criticism surrounding the agency since President Obama took office.
One such ruling that has sparked criticism from Republicans is the NLRB’s decision to try and block Boeing from relocating an assembly plant from Washington State to South Carolina. One of the critics, Darrell Issa, a California Republican who is chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has called the case an “unprecedented” job-killing effort and subpoenaed all of the NLRB’s papers in the case.
To that, Babson, who served on the board under President Ronald Reagan, said, “The principle of Congressional oversight is sound and important, but this particular undertaking transcends all bounds.”
