Michael Marino's arrival to Seyfarth Shaw's Labor & Employment Department was featured in the Law360 article, "Seyfarth Grabs Hunton Labor Guru for NY Office," published April 15, 2009. The article noted that Mike brings with him more than three decades of experience with traditional labor and employment law dating back to his time in the U.S. Marine Corps, when he attended law school while on leave from the military. The article also noted that Mike worked for the Marines as an attorney and eventually ended up stationed at the Pentagon.

Mike moved to Seyfarth because of its strong national position, which he explained is a feature his clients are looking for at a time that could see changes in federal labor policy and an increase in litigation. "We're on the brink of potentially the most exciting decade for labor law in a long time," Mike observed, referring to the possibility that Congress could pass the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) or some other legislation that might lead to a rise in traditional organizing by unions. As a traditional labor lawyer, Mike explained that he "really enjoy[s] that type of work" involving collective bargaining agreement and he sees "a potential for a surge in the labor movement." The article also reported that Seyfarth was a good fit for Mike because of its larger presence in New York and Boston, as well as California, which he felt presents "tremendous resources." Mike described his time at the firm thus far as "energizing." The article continued by outlining Mike's successful career leading up to his arrival at Seyfarth.

The article concluded with a quote from the firm's labor department chairman, Jeremy Sherman, who called Mike "an excellent enhancement" to the firm's New York office and "…a strong asset," to the group. Lorie Almon, co-managing partner of the firm's New York office agreed, noting that beyond Mike's labor law experience his work representing resort and hotel clients will increase the firm's expertise in the industry.
