Pamela Devata was quoted in the March 16, 2010 Human Resource Executive article, “Accrediting Background Screeners.” The article discussed the National Association of Professional Background Screeners’ (NAPBS) new industry accreditation program, which will further standardize the industry and give the seal of approval to organizations that meet required levels regarding consumer protection, legal compliance, client education, product standards, service standards, and general business practices.

Pam, who once served on the NAPBS’ board of directors and who has a number of clients in the background-screening industry, commented that the industry is firmly committed to complying with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which is the federal law that regulates the accuracy and fairness of background-screening firms and credit bureaus. Pam commented, “Under FCRA, when a dispute concerning a report comes to light, the firm has 30 days to investigate and provide a revised report. But most background-screening firms file revised reports in less than 30 days.”
