Paul Galligan’s Blog on NYC’s Safe Hotels Act Referenced in Hotel Management
Hotel Management referenced Paul Galligan’s blog post, “The NYC Safe Hotels Act Creates More Challenges For Non-Union Hotels,” in its article, “Is New York City’s new hotel safety act a good or bad thing?,” on April 28. Galligan discussed how the most significant challenge for larger hotels under the new law is the required transition to directly hiring core staff—prohibiting the use of contractors or staffing agencies for roles like housekeeping and front desk in hotels with 100 or more rooms.
“The ban on subcontracting was justified by Assemblyperson Menin and other Assembly sponsors and the politically connected Hotel and Gaming Trades Council (“HTC”) on the basis that employees of subcontractors are frequently exploited.”
