Russell Swapp Quoted in Electronic Engineering Times
”Green-Card Red Tape Sends Valuable Engineers Packing”
Russell Swapp was quoted in the article, ”Green-Card Red Tape Sends Valuable Engineers Packing,” published in the August 27, 2007 issue of Electronic Engineering Times. The article discusses complications resulting from the bottleneck of nearly 600,000 applicants for 120,000 employment-based visas.
Russell notes that in order to understand why demand is so heavy for the limited number of such visas in the first place it’s important to look at the larger picture: There simply aren’t enough Americans with the education levels in tech necessary to meet employer demand. Russell also looks to the politics behind immigration reform as a contributing factor to the bottleneck of employment visa applicants: “There are folks in Congress who are holding legal-immigration initiatives and legislative proposals hostage. They’re using [those initiatives] as bargaining chips in the debate on illegal immigration.” Russell notes that as a result, “Corporate America is being competitively disadvantaged because they’re unable to hire a sufficient number of highly skilled and educated foreign nationals.”
